Mrs. Lawson was born and raised in Mansfield, Texas, and began studying music (piano lessons) at the age of 8. Four years later, Laura encountered an opportunity to learn to play horn, and found a new musical passion by doing so. Following her education in MISD, Laura began her college studies in music education at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. In 2011, she continued her studies in music at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. She graduated with honors from FSU’s College of Music with her degree in Music Therapy & Music Performance, as well as an emphasis in Music in Special Education & Psychology, and full certification to perform NICU Music Therapy.
Upon completion of her degree, Mrs. Lawson opened her business, MusicMatters, LLC. She provides music lessons, masterclasses, mock-auditions, solo preparations, holiday events, horn camps, along with many other services for her students.
A few years following, Mrs. Lawson founded the CorDallas Horns, a Non-Profit Organization dedicated to providing horn and music education to the next generation of young hornists. CorDallas Horns provides music at churches, weddings, parties, funerals, as well as coordinates and runs the Summer Horn Camps in the DFW Metroplex.
